A PRAYER FOR MY PEOPLE AND OUR NATION
Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. Genesis 6:5,6,11
As a black man I am greatly disturbed by the violence against my people and deeply concerned about the repercussions that may follow for our great nation. Therefore, I have written this open letter prayer on behalf of my people as Daniel did for his people in the book of Daniel chapter nine.
This prayer is reflective of my identity as a “Black” citizen who is grieved by the injustice perpetrated against us by a small percentages of police officers who are protected by a judicial system that often fails to provide equal justice under the law when it comes to police “wrong doings” against minorities, especially “Blacks”. I recognize and is appreciative of the fact that the majority of police men and women serve with honor and dignity. I pray for their protection and that they stand against those officers who do not.
This prayer is also reflective of my identity as a Christian who value all lives, and of my love for our great nation; America. This is in essence a prayer for all Americans.
“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10)
We have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments. Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land. O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face…
We have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. “As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth. (Daniel 9:5,6.7,10,13)
Heavenly Father, as Daniel interceded on behalf of his nation and people so do I pray for my nation and people. Forgive us Father of our sins; replace hatred and division with a spirit of love and unity. Lead us back to Your will and according to Your ways; for You are Holy and Righteous.
Father, I pray against the spirit of hatred, racism and violence. I pray against the spirit of division, lawlessness and the destruction of moral and family values as established by You. I pray against the unjust killings of black males by police. I pray against black on black crimes and against violence between all people groups. I pray against violence perpetrated against policemen and other law enforcement agencies.
I pray for a spirit of repentance, love and unity. I pray for the protection of our nation against terrorism and war. I pray for the protection of Christians all over the world for we are all one in Christ. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
I pray for the black families who recently lost love ones unjustly by the hands of policemen. And I pray for the family of the five policemen in Dallas TX who were heinously executed by a disturbed man filled with hatred.
I pray for our Government officials; local, state and federal; that they turn to your Word (The Bible) as the moral compass that influence their decisions and legislation. I pray that God bless America with judicial equality, love, peace and unity.
I ask this of You Father, in Your Son, my Lord and Savior, Jesus’ name; Amen.”
Regardless of your ethnicity, I encourage you to pray for your fellow Americans, law enforcement, Government officials and for our great nation; God does indeed answer prayer.
